Grabbing Time (September, 1995)

Time is so vanishing
Yet all that we have.

Time both heals wounds
And assures age progression.

Time removes me from my ancestors
and places me in my age.

Is required for things to sink in;
Is required for fading memories.

Time is the measure
of my distance from you.

It cannot be compressed
nor extended save through dreams.
It cannot be captured
nor placed on a canvas–
nor turned into verse–
nor sung, nor played.

Take time if you can;
Turn time into purpose.
Grab time as you find it;
let time be your lover.

For time never returns.
Yet what never started
can never stop.
Beginnings and endings rolled into one.

So grab you some time
and gulp down a good measure
Don't count as you play,
for time is life's treasure.
