I Feel a Sadness More Today

I touch on sadness more each day
That time is lost
and hope is small
That our people
and our Country, too
No longer dream that future's best.

I think we go the way of Rome
I think we know not love nor home.
I think the best not yet to come.
Just rests in peace in history.

My loss is yours.
Your loss is mine.
An irony of simple words.
A darkness falling
on us all.

So look us all into the past,
and look us all into our hearts.
(A look to hearts alone suffices.)
And find a reason all to smile.
Remove this sadness from us all,
And make us see the awful truth:
That life today is what we have.

And turn that awful truth to joy
A hat-trick for the God in all.
Without this measure
loss of treasure.

We have our minds for some good use.
Attend to sadness.
Look for passion.
And bring each day back into light.
Doing less adds shame to loss.
Act now! Delay's a dangerous thing.

Move forward before eternal curtains fall
That snuff us into history, too.
